my tear is right where the 'support bar' ,directly above your head, rests.my driver side has a tear & the passenger side is coming soon.i talked to one of the service centers in Tulsa here & they said there is a service bulletin on this problem, but they want me to pay for 1/2 of repairs sinc my car '03 has 81k mi.
Here's something i DID learn --a reputable shop that does convertible tops as their business, told me that,DO NOT leave the tops down at night.our tops are impregnated with VINYL & leaving down over lengthy periods of times DOES stress this kind of fabric.
On my top i did notice that the elastic straps that hold this 'crossbar' overhead tight, are worn out and now droop down.apparently when these straps wear, the bar does not go into position as it should when top is down & bar ends poke material..hope this helps because, yeah,i think this is a factory design flaw & Honda being who they are-make it right!

Year: 2003
First tear: 35K
Top replaced under warranty

Started noticing considerable wear on the new top at about 60-65K (hasn't torn through yet). I haven't had it replaced and am no longer putting the top down until I either patch it or get it replaced.

Both tears in same location. Accelerated wear due to sharp edge on frame. See:

Any tips on discussing with Honda corporate or dealerships are appreciated.
