Default SteveUCI Microphone System (SUMS) - Demonstration

Ok I'm going overboard and being silly about this, but here goes nothing:

I got a SpeedMount camera mount for my car yesterday, and wanted to do something about avoiding recording wind noise in my videos. So I bought a full-sized microphone and taped it into the inside of the rear bumper away from buffeting winds and near the exhaust. It is tackily wired to an Olympus digital voice recorder with variable microphone sensitivities. I would start recording with the voice recorder, then fire up a video from the camera mount. Later on, I would find the soundclips on the recorder that go along with the videoclips and merge em together using Adobe Preimere. Since the recorder is digital and has timestamps with each recording, this made matters VERY easy when finding the soundclip to go with the videoclip.

The "installation":

Before SUMS:

After SUMS:

More examples can be found in the SoCal Megameet 2002 section of http://www.motive-force.com

Does your camera not have an external mic input that you could use?

Sounds good. good clean exhaust sound...
Wonder of one can stick a microphone in the engine bay somewhere to hear engine noise...

NOPE, sucks huh? My digicam is probably 2 years old now so.... Obviously I can't keep that duct tape on my leather and car exterior so I need to invest in something nicer for purposes like this!

You know, I originally tried that, but with a PC microphone -- it sounded REALLY bad -- too much mechanical static and clicking going on, so I didn't go further with that. I definitely wanted to hear more of the intake in my recordings though!
