Taiwan
Never been to Taiwan, but been to Mainland China (PROC) in 1992. Its like walking into the pages of an issue of National Geographic. I didn't go there thinking it was going to be some kind of lush resort. I went there to explore, learn, and cultivate some culture. It is really quite interesting. Makes you appreciate some of the simple luxuries here in the US we take for granted. I thought I'd mix in because I was chinese, but I stuck out like a sore thumb because 1.) I don't speak mandarin, 2.) My clothing, 3.) well, you can just tell apart tourists. I'd love to go again because its a hell of an adventure and learning opportunity. Just look past the smell, pollution, and squat toilets. Well, that was 9 years ago. Don't know what's changed since then.
Most of the guys I talk to here speak English. I'm actually kinda getting used to the smell. I guess it was just culture shock at first. Its hard to find good American food here.(even the Mcdonalds menu is different). The Chinese food is totally unlike what we have in the US. Its not salty at all, and mostly they have seafood dishes. My first lunch here was a real shock. I had Chinese "health" food. It consisted of some kind of seaweed soup, rice and some chicken crap. It tasted like cardboard to me. What's funny is that the Engineer here says he hates Mexican food. I can understand why if you grew up eating such bland food. Its really an interesting experience.
I go in a "department store" which was a large building with many floors. I ran into a Gaming cafe where they had computers set up and they played Q3 and the like. That was cool.

Hey gabedude
Funny...I will be on my biz trip to Taiwan this week...if you're there long enough, maybe i'd show you the nice side of Taiwan. You really picked the worst season to go though...during the winter its much nicer.
BTW, You really need to stay in the city to see nice cars...i've seen at least 2 s2000s on the road...silver and red. One of which belongs to a TV star.
No...the EVO you saw is just the bodykit, they are all over the road. No skylines either cause Taiwanese laws prohibits LHD vehicles from entering the island. I've seen lots of nice "little" eruos...206s, smarts, A-class, minis...

pip, do you mean RHD? When I was there, I remember the cars being LHD
gabedude, you'll find that "Chinese" food in America is really "American-Chinese" food. Real Chinese cuisine is very very different from most places you'll find in the US.
