Default Whats a good digital camera?

Hey All,
I'm needing to buy a digital camera for school, personal use, and whatever else. Mainly for school though(art stuff). Does anyone know of a good digital camera? I guess my price is $700.00 max. If you can post some pics as examples of what the camera can do, that'd be great.
thanks to those that can help

go for a Sony that's in your price range. They're all good.

I have the SONY CyberShot DSC-P5. I love it. Only thing is that you will need to get a bigger memory stick but the prices on a 128MB one are very cheap now.

I second the Sony suggestion. They make awesome cameras and in all price ranges.

sonys are good but overpriced.

For that price take a look at the Minolta Dimage 5. You can find it much cheaper on the net.

I have a "starter" digicam that is easier to work and cost less than a lot of cameras, it's an Olympus D100 1.3 Megapixel, and my pix turn out excellent, on the Super High Quality setting the pix are 880K!!! You can spend til' your hearts content on a digicam.

I've also heard a lot of good things about the Nikon Coolpix series.

IMO the best camera out is currently the Minolta Dimage 7. It runs for about $900-1000 but you could probably get one a little cheaper than that. If that is too much for you, then I would go with the Dimage 5. I have always used Sony's but have not been satisfied lately. One of my new Sony's has crappy color and the other is so small it has to be held prefectly still or it blurs. ALSO, MOST SONY'S DO NOT OFFER MANUAL FOCUS. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS GOOD PICTURES.

The Mavica is my choice. Pop in a floppy disk, shoot your pictures, pop the disk in your computer, view your pictures, done. And it even makes l minute sound movies. How easy can it get?

I'm not a big fan of the Mavica (no offense to you), but the picture quality from mavicas just isn't that great because you can only fit 1.3(i think)mb on one disk, if you are wanting super high quality pics, they are a lot big in file size. I do like how you dont' have to use other kinds of memory for the mavica, less hassle.

If you have a grand to blow, the sony F707 is awesome, but also at that price, you can get a Nikon 5000.
I got a Nikon 990 for +- $500, 3.1 megapixel, great cam for the price.
My only complaint with the lesser Sony's is storage, floppies stink (too small and eat batteries on the cam) and Sony memmory sticks are proprietary to Sony stuff. Most other cams and devices (mp3 players, etc) use smart media or compact flash. Compact flash is probably the most universal.
