Default XM Antenna Placement

Went to get stereo replaced (Pioneer 670MP, JL Audio speakers, XM -- sounds great, BTW). I told installer I wanted the antenna inside, on the dash in between the vents next to the windsheild. I came back with the antenna installed on top of the windsheild frame. He says XM sent a bulletin warning about interior placement due to complaints of drop out. He says he will put it inside if I wanted but thought the new placement is kinda unique. Any one tried this?

FYI: The antenna does not get in the way of roof operation.

interesting, but not stealthy enough. I have mine placed right behind the windscreen. I get fine reception there as well.

Dude I have mine installed where you wanted to install it and you don't even notice it. The reception is perfect. Whoever told you about the XM bulletin was feeding you hot air. You can even place it in the secret compartment and get reception. Trust me I know, my cousin owns a stereo shop and installs these all day long. I would take it back and have them do it right. It looks hideous where they put it.

i live in a rural part of Mississippi and worry about dropout. will try this placement to see if it grows on me. otherwise will have them move it to my original request.

Wherever you put it in our car you will get reception due to the soft top. It's a satellite not landline so you will get good reception.

I'm sorry but that placement is horrible. The soft top wont be blocking much of the XM signal anyway. At the very least just center it over your trunk lid.

Maybe it's too obvious or blase, but I put mine between the roof and my trunk lid. Zero drop outs, and when painted body color, looks completely OEM. I'm happy with it.

Sorry for the crappy night pic, but I had a long day today, and just got home...

I say get the micro antenna and put it on the dash between the windshield and the A-pillar on the driver's side and nobody will notice you have it. It's not as stealth as putting it the secret compartment or anything but it's easier to put there and no problem with reception. I did the same thing in my Audi TT and the some the guys went nuts talking about how it wouldn't work until, they saw and heard mine with no drop outs.

ALL those ideas arent stealth enough -

I installed mine underneath the plastic housing on the A pillar

Reception was about 90% - but I needed better reception out in the sticks where I live - so now it is mounted on the back of the rear view mirror
