Default Audio rewire, soundproofing- custom build. Advice/examples needed

Hi,

I am fully restoring my s2000 and I finally bought a mugen rep hardtop so it’s time to crack on with the interior to have the top permanently fitted.

Currently the dash is off, all the carpets are off and the plastics… the floor has been undercoated with rust proof/etch primer/paint/laquer.

The plan is:

- Soft top delete

- Using soft top space for a possible audio install (2 speakers/2 tweeters)

- Battery relocation to the trunk /roof area?

- Possibly using the space in the centre of the trunk for amp/sub?

- new front speaker and tweeter install+ new better wires

- headunit relocation to the top storage behind the seat

- 3 gauges instead of the headunit

- Full sound proof trunk/interior

I never done anything like it and this is my biggest project so I need some suggestions/advice from people that have done this already J

Main questions:

- Custom audio setup… just give me examples of speakers you used… wires you used… pics if possible? J

.Electronics is not my strong side so I was wondering what is the best way to have the whole thing wired? I was thinking- wires going from the speakers to the amp (door speakers and tweeters having a bridge? Same thing for rear speakers… think it would have to be a 4way amp with sub controls)

.I will have to extend the wires for the headunit and since it has 2 plugs- I could get rid of 1 as that one is just for speakers and just extend the main power one.. have the headunit connected to the amp via Line in (don’t know the exact name for those J ).

.The headunit itself I would like some suggestions on a good unit that has great quality + main thing for it to have USB controls as my plan is to have a USB device in the centre console by the shifter that is able to do volume/ folder/ change tracks (any suggestions for that? Will some sort of player work? Must NOT BE APPLE! J) )

-Sound proofing…. There are different products and different thicknesses.. I’ve read a few topics but how many meters have you used approx. and what sort of grade did you go for? (the car will be my weekend toy J but I want it to be a perfect all-rounder with nice ride comfort)

-Battery relocation… what gauge wire did you use? Where did you relocate? Possible to upgrade for a better/lighter battery? Any suggestions to where to send the plus wire through?

-Anyone did a sub/amp setup in the trunk area?

-How do gauges work? (oil pressure, oil temp, Air/fuel, boost pressure) 3 would go where the headunit was and 1 would be instead of the audio control knob… do they have individual wires and sensors or are there kits available where they all would link up to a ‘control unit’ to which the sensors would connect?

Sorry if I asked anything silly, but I never did such a big project and would like to finish it to the best standard so asking the people that know best J

Any suggestions/ideas/inspiration/ pictures are more than welcome!!!

Thank you!!!!!!!!

cosmomiller has a couple of great threads on sound deadening/control.
