Default Fog light switch placement

Hello,

I just recently did the ek fogs install on my 2003 s2000. I don't know where to wire it to, so i'm currently leaving the switch hanging by the footwell. Does anyone know if it can be tapped into the mute button (aftermarket stereo) or defrost or any other ideal locations?

Pictures and how to would be great.

Thanks.

As for the Mute button on your stereo: an external relay would likely be needed to handle the current of the fog lamps. Stated another way, the (presumably) low-voltage/low-current Mute output would drive the coil of a relay having a suitable 12 volt / X amperage rating, where "X" is the fuse rating of the fog lamps. You'll also want to protect the Mute output from "inductive kick" from the relay coil by using a "snubber" or "flyback" diode or equivalent (some relays have this built-in).

I put my DRL custom light switch on the lower instrument cluster initially like shown in the pic below, I have since changed cluster covers and I moved the switch to the lower side of the dashboard.

There are not many places in the S2000 cockpit to add things are there? I got tired of cables coming from the console power plug. I needed it for a GPS, phone charger and tire pump. I placed a very handy dual USB port at my right knee. There is a pop-off panel at the bottom of the dash. I put some pictures on my Flickr account because I haven't been able to upload to this forum. Here is a link that hopefully will work for you. It has been problematic for some in the Vintage owners thread.

i was thinking of putting it there, but i really don't want to replace my defrost button, is there any other places to put it at? the 2nd one post looks good, but I don't want to drill in a place where it takes a lot of effort to replace.

Thanks for the posts so far!

Well I suppose you could leave the switch "dangling" somewhere--e.g., under your seat; under the dash, under the floor mat, etc. Just make sure to use "heat shrink tubing" on the electrical terminals of the switch so no bare wire is exposed. Personally, I like `toekneer's` location under the dash--and even if you didn't use a drill like he did, you could still tuck a loose, "dangling" switch under the dash. Or maybe tape/zip-tie it into a semi-fixed position/location.

I was thinking of doing this: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/899...da-fit-switch/ but wiring diagram is so confusing, which relay wire did he mean? can anyone help me figure a way to do the fit switch, but can turn on by itself, without needing the low beam to be on.

(just like it is now, which it can be toggled on and off. https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/932...or-fog-lights/ (post #5 first picture) allows me to do that.

Thanks

The following is not meant to be pejorative: I think you would be better served by seeking in-person assistance from someone who knows automotive electrics/custom installs.

Regardless of one's desire to DIY, sometimes you have to have someone help you in person.
