Default Remove/Replace A/C knobs ?

Hello all,

I am needing to replace the two round "rubbery" knobs on the climate controls. Specifically the temperature knob and the air vent control knob. Both are starting to peel. My question is how to remove them and replace them. Has anyone ever had to do this? I have the OEM repair manual and on the parts diagram it looks like you just pull them out of the dash. My concern is whether this is actually the case, and ALSO if there is any special technique because I have loosely pulled on them and they are pretty snug in there. The dash panel itself behind them even starts to flex. So, before I start trying to rip stuff apart I thought I would double check out here with you all.

Anyone ever remove/replace these? Any tips? Is it really that simple? TIA, folks.
