Repair Convertable Top - Interesting
Hey Guys/Gals,
I have noticed some wear on my cloth dark blue top. I looked inside and it looks like the center bar is rubbing when I put the top down, I even push it back when lowering the top halfway (did not work).
So I called my aunt which does upholstry, and she sent me out some black convertable top cloth. I was thinking about cutting a sheet the size of the entire interior from the bar back to the window and pasting it on with some headliner spray glue from autozone. Do you think this will work? This way when the bar wears it wears on the new cloth not the actual convertable top.
Thanks for feedback.

I read through the threads no one actually used headliner spray so attach a sheet of vinyl. I think I am going to purchase the headliner flexable glue and place a small patch first to see how it flexes. I will let you guys know how this turns out.
doubt it will stick. The top material from Honda is embedded with something that does not allow very many types ofadhesive to stick. I have used a method using super glue gel but it sounds like your looking for a larger area of coverage than I have done. My method takes a small peice(to patch a small hole) and using a brass bruch- toothbrush sized- and scour the underside of the convertable top. Using a peice of old OEM top material, I scuff the patch(what would be the underside also) and with both peices scuffed I apply super glue gel to placethe patch. I have had a patch like his on my car for about 18 months and it is still holding good.
Thank you the more I think about it a large piece will not work the way I want it to. I am going to start small with super glue, and headliner glue (2 patches) see which one holds up.
Don't use super glue it will degrade what is left of your top. The only product to use to patch is tear aid.(type B for vinyl) it has the adhesive that will not bunch up when the top is folded. If applied correctly it can last for years. My top started to rip 12 mos. after I purchased my car The dealer wouldn't warranty it.I tried every thing from clear silicone, black silicone w/rubber patch, iron on kits etc. bottom line, Untill you can get a new top like I did, look into tear aid.

get this stuff HH-66 http://www.sailrite.com/HH-66-Vinyl-Cement-8oz and a patch preferably some old soft top pieces and apply from inside of the soft top.
It's been 2 years since I repaired a small 1/2 tear and no issues at all. Just make sure you clean both contact points before applying this or any adhesive.
I've used tear aid and while it worked ok for some period of time I found that HH-66 far more superior.
Good Luck
