Default shift knob

i got a new shift knob for christmas form my brother and went to put it on but it didnt fit. so when i screwed my stock one back on, it comes loose after driving. i tighten it down by hand but it jsut keeps doing it agian. im not sure why. also, it dosent line up correctly, the gear's on top point off to the side, not straight up and down. not to worried about that, just want the dang thing to stop rattleing loose. any one have this problem before? thanks

tim

did you use a 14mm open end wrench on the nut that goes under the shift knob to tighten it ?. It sounds to me that you are missing the nut that goes under the knob (upside down) and that way you can line it up straight and put tension on the knob to keep it tight.

thats not correct on how that works. you put the nut on upside down pretty much. then get the numbers straight and then tighten the 14mm nut up to the bottom of the shift know like so...

Yup like this, tension on the knob by the nut is what keeps it in place tightly, bring the nut up to the bottom of the knob when you have it properly set.
