Smudges / Blemishes on Dashboard
Well the problem started showing up after I used the armor all, though this might not have caused it. On the spots I've used 303, meguiar's plastic cleaner, and Einszett deep plastic cleaner. I normally apply the solution on the dash for a couple seconds and give it some elbow grease. Maybe I'm not applying the right technique?
I doubt the problem is technique. Clearly no one knows what is causing these splotches and no one knows how to correct them, assuming they are in fact correctible. They may not be. It's possible that our dashboards are made out of defective vinyl or something.
As mentioned above, I applied M39 Heavy-Duty Vinyl Cleaner to the dash on multiple occasion over the space of a week or so. The spots did not disappear immediately. They did eventually disappear, though. I have wondered why. I love to go around with my top down during the summer and have wondered if exposure to the sunlight helped to "dry" them out. Perhaps it was just coincidence.
If I were you, I would find a good vinyl cleaner and just keep using it periodically for a month or two. I would avoid dressing the dashboard with any protectants during that time. And just see what happens. Perhaps the splotches will disappear, perhaps not. If they don't go away, you might just have to try hiding them by using a decent vinyl dressing (303 Protectant, Ultimate Protectant, Supreme Shine, etc.).
Perhaps someone will discover a definitive solution to this problem. Clearly this is a problem that has hit a number of S2000 owners.
