Default Soft Top Repair

This is my first meaningful post to the forums. I have had my car for more than 5 years but just lurked on the forums until now. Last week I discovered that my soft top had some wearing on the interior to the point where I could see daylight through the damage. I found this topic and followed the directions.

Because I like details I took photos of my repair.

This is what my damage looks like on the passenger side (driver side has no signs of damage).

Here are the materials I purchased. I didn't buy the nylon iron on patches because the ones I found were incredibly thin and didn't seem durable enough.

After ironing the two patches together (glue side to glue side) I cut out the size/shape I needed to cover my damage.

I scuffed up one side of my patch with a wire brush and I use some chopsticks to apply a thin coat of the E-6000 glue.

I firmly pushed it in place and made sure I got all the air bubbles out from under it using my fingers and a clean chopstick.

This is the view from the outside.

I am really happy with how it turns out. I will keep an eye on it over the next few months to see how it holds up.

Not surprised no one commented. Looks good OP but give it time and it will start to tear again. My rip in my top just got worst and worst so I took the best route and just bought a top from a member.

Looks good, I Did a similar patch repair and after around 3 months the patch started to wear from opening and closing the top.

One think you should also look into is sanding down the area of the bar that comes in contact with that part of the softtop. essentially what caused the rip in the first place.

Nicely done regardless

Won't sanding it down make it rougher? Or is roughness not the problem, but a pointy edge?
I have an 02 with a 6 month old Robbins top and I want to prevent any rips.
What should I do with the frame?

Nope -- not if done properly.

Nice post... I have a similar problem. Seems like it's pretty common for the soft top frame to have ruff edges. Problem is cleaning them up with the top still on. I plan to really go over the frame with sanding and painting while the old top is off and before the new one goes on. I can litterally feel the sharp edge that is cutting into the top though. You would thinking Honda would have done something about this, but I think the good news is that once you get those ruff spots smooth (I would think) you shouldn't have future problems.

Again, nice post!
