Intake is good for noise - best fun:money ratio mod you can do on these cars.

As for more power, it's a highly-strung NA you can forget it. You need to go FI for power - it's not easy to tune like your Impreza was.

Personally the first thing you should spend money on is giving it a proper service - engine oil and filter, diff, gearbox oil, brake fluid, clutch fluid, bleed brakes etc.
Brand new discs and pads.
Then tires. You said you reckon they have 15k miles on them? They must be almost bald then!

In that case, consider the UK mod (look it up on here. Its a simple bypass pipe you weld in to mame the stock exhaust a little louder). You can go louder with a larger bypass pipe, or mild with a smaller one.

I was sold on the moddiction Short shifter, but they are out of stock- it looks like the Axial Flow has some mixed reviews? Either way, I'd got terrible buzzing, so if I'm going to pull the shifter, I'm going to put a short throw in.

I'm getting old, and slow. I'd love to track it, in theory. But that gets expensive, and addicting.

Oil and filter are done, Gear box oil was going to get done today, but I forgot and got stuck at the gun range. I hope to get the rest of the fluids swapped out tomorrow, assuming the holiday doesn't f@#k me. Discs/pads look decent, but I guess I could take a look into upgrading.

I will go take a look at this right now, thanks!

smart move on the UK mod, saves you $1k and you get great sound.

The folks talking about super/turbo charging perhaps forgot the $2k cost of standalone ECU + tuning to the cost of a used kit.

Get a high flow cat or test pipe for a little performance boost. Add a VAFC/AFC NEO to bring vtec down and for a mild tune. Chasing NA horsepower with this motor is futile unless you want to drop $$$. I came from a DSM, so the days of cheap HP are gone.

I'm with the others on tires, brakes, suspension, track time. If you do intend to track you may need a roll bar on some tracks. Check out Rock Star Garage and Hard Dog for bolt in solutions.

Back to tires for a moment, if the tires that came with the car are not of the max/extreme performance tire category and a reputable brand, sell them and get some good rubber.

Nope, you dont have to tune a base supercharger kit.

I'm not screaming for more HP. I'm done with those days- I just fell into this car by happenstance. Got it for a steal, and want to put some money into it to get it up to my standards.

Right now I've got a little niggle with the tranny, so I'm dunzo until I get that figured out.

Are you referring to the SOS kit? I stand corrected.
