Default Adding OEM DRL Discussion

I was pretty bored this afternoon and figured I would start looking at how to add DRL to my 04 AP2 after seeing s4play's new LED modules. I have searched and found many many "Oh it's too expensive to do it OEM, buy this random module and hack up your harness" posts without any real factual data.

Complicating things however are the fact that I cannot for the life of me find an online Honda dealer for Canada that lists parts (similar to Majestic).

From what I have found however, I am thinking there is a possibility of it working with the following

1) Running Lights/Heated Mirror fuse added to fuse box
-- there is a blank position for it and it is labelled, leads me to believe it is functional
2) RELAY ASSY., RUNNING LIGHT (RZ11-126) (MITSUBA)
-- 38260-S2A-C02 is listed for 2006+ S2000's under the Control Unit (Cabin) section for $52
3) RUNNING LIGHT SUB UNIT
-- 38265-S2A-A01 is listed for 2006+ S2000's under the Control Unit (Cabin) section for $70

While Majestic's/Honda's diagrams are not 100% accurate, they are pretty close to give a relative location of items. #8 and #5

As you can see from that diagram, I *believe* these items are located to the right of the steering column under the dash. I am basing that assumption from the 'hump' for the cluster.

After crawling up underneath the dash and looking in that general area, I located an unused gray electrical connection with ~4 wires going to it. It is taped (blue tape) to another harness that appears to go to the defrost and AC/heat control units. I will try to take a picture of this later. I was hoping a Canadian member could chime in and take a picture of this location for comparative purposes. Given 2004 Canadian S2000's had DRL's standard and Honda neglected to change the fuse box labeling, and has this random connector hanging out in the general vicinity of where I believe the DRL module to be I think there may be a good chance adding these items may work.

Any thoughts and insights are appreciated

Imageshack has tilted the image 90 degrees to the left, the red/gray metal lump is directly below and to the left of the steering wheel.

Interesting there are no comments or input.

Can anyone confirm what that connector is for at least?

Nope, not in Canada. I kinda like how they look. I would be interested though to see what Canadian '04 S2000's have plugged in that connector. I have an inkling that's where the DRL module is.

do you have a shop manual, it lists all of the wiring for the canadian and us models, if you want some wiring diagrams I can scan them to you and it will show the differences. I think the wiring is going to be different, but it's been a while since I looked at it.

I have a US S2k running here in Canada. I found a different setup for use for daytime running lights. I went through the issue with my Honda parts guy (who used to be a certified Honda mechanic) and he intimated that it could not be done, so I went a different route. He did make me a relay that ran the HID lights 24 / 7 as DRL's, it worked pretty good and was a simple 5 minute installation, pretty much plug and play and no wire hacks, everything contained underdash in the cabin. The dashboard lights worked perfectly too between daytime and nightime use, and the parking lights didn't run 24/7 just the HID's. If you are interested in something like that let me know I can access one for you. It uses an oem Denso relay.

Hmm, no I don't have those diagrams for the 04+ models, I definitely would be interested in seeing them.

I just have a hard time believing Honda would leave the Fuse box labeled, that seemingly random connector in the vicinity of where I think the DRL module is AND sell nearly identical LHD models in Canada with DRL. Seems like a waste of money to have the harnesses redone rather than just use the same ones in each model.

Chris, I look forward to the progress on this. I myself was just talking about doing this. If its a simple job that doesn't require hacking up the harnes,s I would be very interested in this. I wonder if the 06+ models have the same setup as the Canadian 04+? Maybe that might have some insight as to you answer.

And therein lies my confusion. The 06+ models in US have the same part numbers throughout for those units. So I'm *thinking* in Canada there's a chance the 04+ AP2's have the same part numbers as well.

I'm at a minimum confused as to what the purpose of that connector is.

I know the downloaded PDF repair manual I have has the wiring harness broken down but that is for the AP1s. Maybe if you can get your hands on a 06+ repair guide, you would have your answer.

I miss having my Alldata subscription.

Although I have nothing to contribute to this thread, I would like to have the DTRL's. It would be nice to be able to run them without hacking up the wiring like you've refered to. I highly doubt its going to be as easy as plugging in a DTRL module.
