Thumbs up Another HT thread

I want to purchase a hardtop, but I have no idea what I should get. I heard VIS tops are nice, but how do they fit? In all honesty does it matter if I went FRP instead of carbon fiber? I understand its the real deal, but paying over 3k installed seems unreasonable to me. I could probably get a frp installed and painted for 2k... If there is a better type of HT for a decent price let me know. If some feels like selling there's I would consider purchasing it .

Haha seems as though hard tops are and will always be a dilemma. Look at me I've had cf mugen style for over a year now absolutely love it, fits well and I have it on more than off the car. I've just bought an OEM HT just so I can have a change. Not really planning on selling either in the short term either.
I think you'll find that once you get one then you ll be happy or you ll be like alot of others and change around your mods as things change.

Btw I'm not the only one that's had more than one HT there are many that carry 2 or more. I can't remember but there is a long time member on here that has 4 or 5 authentic mugen ht's
And there is a guy that has a hoard of mugen wheel sets

I think it's the obsession with the S 2000 enjoyment

If your looking for a replica, VIS is the way to go. That's what I did and my top fits great. I havent had any problems with it whatsoever, so i'm very happy.

You can see my DIY and some fitment pics in this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...f=193&t=828067

I just got an FRP one and got it painted Berlina Black. With everything so far I have spent maybe $1750 for everything, that includes the top, paint, upgraded seals, shin etsu grease (to stop squeaking), tinted rear plexi, ect...

Also if you want to buy one, I would buy though GBPerformance, that's where I got mine. They are $1275 shipped for the FPR, and $1925 shipped for carbon.

Thanks. I will look into that. Approximately how much would a body shop charge to install one? A couple hours of labor maybe? I would do it myself, but I want to make sure its done right.

A shop might charge you a couple hours worth of labor for install, so it will most likely cost a little over $100 to get it installed. I also got mine painted for $350, so you "should" be able to have it painted and installed for less than $500.

Yea its a tough choice. I really only want one that will be on most of the time, and use the soft top if I get caught in the rain etc.. But I do understand why ppl have more than one. I just don't feel the same way. Have you ever considered painting the cf top? Im not sure how naked cf would look on a black s2k. Any insight?

Haha I like the "should" part. Usually nothing goes as planned with these cars right ?

Haha yes, and I know all shops charge different rates and it could end up being less, or it could end up being more. I can't say but that is the average of what shops charge, and that is what I paid.

Another member in my area has a BB with the cf Ht and his looks great, not naked so again its just what appeals to you. The OEM HT that I'm getting has a ding in it and is Suzuka blue so I can paintless dent it out, but I'm actually thinking about wrapping it in 3M vinyl, rather than paint for now.
