I was talking to a friend of mine and he said that to put a ap2 bumper on a ap1 you need to also use ap2 headlights. I told him that you shouldnt have to but I figure one of you all would know...

No, you can use the ap1 headlight and ballast. You will need to trim the corners of the Ap1 bumper support to fit the ap2 bumper. You will also need the ap2 splash shield or if you want to save a few hundred $ you can take some sheet aluminum and make adapters to fit the ap1 splash shield to the ap2 bumper since the holes will not align properly. Search around, plenty people have done the conversion and there are a few write ups.

I have an AP2 bumper on my AP1 with AP1 headlights.
Lines up fine but need to trim a little bit under the bumper cover so it sits flush. I still haven't done i so there is a slight gap on the passenger side headlight where it meets the bumper.
