So my center console cup holder door won't retract by itself, could someone do me a huge favor of taking their console out and taking a picture of the door retracting mechanism on the underside? There are no pictures of it online. Thanks!

 

You sure it's not filled with gummy, fossilized Coke? I think you're going to have to pull the console to fix it anyway.

It's a coil spring sort of mechanism, latches on to the door and sort of rolls up when open. Taking it apart is easy enough, pop off the console and take off 8-12 screws(?) and then disassemble. Cleaned mine with isopropyl alcohol and q-tips.

 

It's off the car now but there is no spring whatsoever.

I have the parts brand new but I still can't figure out how to get the spring and separator back into the tray properly

 

The spring is a piece of ribbon spring steel that moves with the door.

 

How do you insert/align the spring properly...and then how do you insert the separator without breaking off the plastic tabs (ears?)...I guess that's where I'm stupid and confused...I need a visual
