AP2 Lip Install
Hey Guys,
I'm trying to install the AP2 OEM front lip. There are 3 clips in under the front bumper that I need to remove.
I can't for the life of me remove these damn things. They're the clips that you have to press in the center, and it locks.
Any advice on how to remove these clips?
Thanks.
Calvin

Hi Calvin,
These clips basically look like a screw that is sliced down the middle (but not all the way down). The reason for this is that the clips are shaped with a "snap" profile on their ends and are flexible. They work by being flexible enough so you can push them through a hole, and the tips compress to go through. Once they're through the hole, the tips open up back to normal, and this holds whatever it is your working with in place.
To remove them you do the opposite: you pinch the two tips togethe from the behind the bumper cover, and while pinched together you push the whole clip down and out of the hole. Once you do one, the others will be easy. You need to reuse these clips so don't get frustrated and break them. However if you do breakthem you can go to your local Honda dealer and get them but they'll charge you like $3 each!
If you need, I can send you the front spoiler installation instructions. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Christopher

i'll look for my lip installation process and post back here...
here you go. i think i took pics of what the clips look like. basically pry them from the top with a flat head then pry the base off with the same flat head you used.

the clips are behind the bumper cover so i'm not sure what to "pry"
thanks.
I just used a flat-head screwdriver, and "popped" the middle part of the bumper clips out. As long you do it carefully and the clips aren't brittle from age, they'll pop right out with no damage to them.

wedge the tip of a flathead screwdriver between the center and outside part of the clip. twist the scredriver carefully as to pry the center portion out slightly. If the center portion is removed too far, you will have a harder time removing the entire piece (due to design), so make sure the center portion of the clip is only popped out slightly, then pry out the entire clip from the bumper.
If you find yourself always troubled with these clips and do a lot of bumper or interior clip removal, i recommend going to the hardware store and buying one of these:

Works wonders for this kind of job. When it comes to cars, specialty tools just make certain jobs a lot easier!
