1) Are Miata batteries any lighter and will they work CCA wise?

2) Does someone make a mini battery bracket and tray combo to fit in the factory spot?

This kind of battery seems geared toward an audio enthusiast. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing....
Its not a bad thing at all thats just there "audio" lable, they have a "racing" line of batterys too, not sure how much lighter they are.

My perspective is that for street cars reserve capacity is critical too - look for it. We love and use the 680 a LOT (on race cars only).

PC680 is fine if you got a trickle charger and don't expect it to start every time when its cold (note i live in socal).

When i had a 240sx i went thru 3 of these they tend to die right outside of their 2 yr warranty.

But for racing or light use it's a great battery. I personally used the PC680MJ metal jacketed

they are glass mat closed cell, a tad lighter with slightly less CCA

the problem is that the crap they sell in the dealer isn't the same stuff they sold they car with in japan.

I had the same Optima yellowtop for the past 6 years and used it in 3 different cars.... it NEVER let me down.. I even bought it second hand back then, so who knows how old it perhaps was when i got it.... These things tend to last longer than a car i guess

The only downside was it weight ( 50+LBS )

With some pain in my heart i took her out of the car and replaced her with the 680 and the pwjdm battery mount..
it looks awesome and the 2 days i owned it right now, it has very good cranking power and looks like the alternator charges up the battery pretty quick! ( got a voltmeter in the car.. )

^^^ Made the decision to go Optima. I can just eat a few salads to drop the weight

Not too many favoable reviews with DieHard from what I have seen
I wasn't able to find any negative reviews for the Diehard Gold, OEM replacement. I just so happen to have purchased one of these for my MY01, that was still on the original OEM battery (9 years of life over 45k miles). Needed something quick and my battery happened to die near a sears...

I need to replace my battery soon, and I was just wondering, has anyone tried the kirkland signature brand batteries from Costco? I've read some pretty good reviews, but I'm interested to hear the opinion of s2 owners.
