Default battery tender

I went to start the s today and it's completely dead. I'm going to buy a battery tender to keep it on while its in the garage during the winter. My question is, should I recharge the batter before the tender is on or will the tender be able to charge it completely?

Will this one do the job? tender

Tender as in a trickle charger?

If its dead now, its prolly because its frozen, take it inside for a few hours and try starting your car, if it starts easily enough, just put the charger on there, either way, the trickle charger wont do much if the battery is frozen. Best bet is to either wrap it in fireproof battery wraps or take it inside when its like it was this past week.

Take it to wally world or a part store to get it tested.

If you got another mode of transport that is.

It's a brand new battery, it's just been sitting in the garage for awhile. Can anyone actually answer my question. Will a battery tender charge a dead battery or does the batter need to be charged first?

If the battery has a little charge, dome lights come on, then a battery tender should work. Since you said that this is a new battery you should not have a problem. Older batteries sometimes have issues with a trickle charger when they are dead.

Depending on how the battery was stored (i.e. on concrete it will be toasted), if it was in your car, it's probably ok. The charger you listed, will not do the job. You'll have to step it up to a CTEK

I know this because my father has that tender and it didn't do such a great job. With the CTEK, let it sit for a few days charging and then try starting it up. Once it cranks you have to either drive the car or let it idle for 20+ minutes. Should be fine afterwards.

The BT will work if any charger would. The rate is a little lower than a bigger charger (e.g. my Sears charger). Check the printed rating, IIRC it is 1.25 A (depending on your exact model). BT's are great devices. My motorcycles live on those and their batteries last way longer than average.

My bad. I did not look at the tender that he was using. I have one from Griot's garage that I use and it states that it will revive a battery but may take longer on the 1st cycle

Heres the step up I believe. tender 2

The dome lights did not come on, it was completely dead. I have a jumper box and it was able to do was slightly have enough juice to dim the dome lights.
