Gears are somewhat of a compromise. If you are willing to go all the way to 4.77s and don't mind shifting a lot more, cruising at higher RPMs etc, then you may like the gears. There is no compromise with the tune, you get more power and don't lose anything. I have driven an AP1 with 4.44s and wasn't impressed at all. Having VTEC 2000 RPMs lower and having more peak HP is more gratifying. I have an EMS and can easily unplug it and drive with the stock ecu, which I have been doing over and over again for the past month due to some issues. The difference is night and day.

Having been dependent on EMS for the last couple of years until this fall, a properly tuned system should make VTEC less noticeable. Peak hp has little to do with acceleration. If you can extract more torque from the tune, you might feel that a little. For the sake of the OP's question, I still stand by my suggestion.

Now, considering his listed mods serve more purpose as weight-reducers than they do power-add'ers, I do agree that a cat-delete would serve more good than that header. I would assume, though, that if one were to go through the trouble of swapping a header and exhaust, but not a cat, that emissions may be a concern. If so, something other than a piggy-back to the ecu may not fly for him.

The OP just said no forced-induction ...
Technically nitrous is not forced induction. S/C's and turbo's are considered forced induction since it forces more air into your engine. Nitrous on the other hand does NOT force more air through. What it does is change the chemical composition of the air molecules.

Yes 8 pound Findanza is a noticeable improvement on the 14pound ap1 flywheel. I have enjoyed one for many years now.

well i think we're kind of saying the same thing.

based solely on finding the best acceleration option, i would say gears are the best bet too.

now, looking at the mod list he has...a good piggyback and tune are what i would do first.

Light weight flywheel, unorthodox pulleys, gears, big bore throttle body, hotter spark, and a good tune. otherwise FI or strap a jet engine to it.
