Yeah the cooling plates are designed to force the air THROUGH the radiator, just like the OEM one. But the benefit to the CF ones is that they usually also assist by directing cool air into the OEM airbox.

It has nothing to do heat being absorbed like a heatsink.

Although I have nothing to actually show you guys, my tuner and I proved, that the AUT cooling plate does a great job of shoving cold air into the engine bay. Cooling plates are NOT heatsinks, so their conducting properties don't mean anything.
good i just picked up an aut cooling plate,

just wondering how was it that you went about proving that.?

Only by doing a flow test could you see if the added plate alters how the air flows around the engine bay. Reading temperatures of the block, intake, water etc can also yield evidence whether the plate is effective or not...

tbh in my opinion it's so minimal if anything that i would purely buy the plate for aesthetics alone...as it does clean the bay a bit.

The fan my tuner was using was a jet fan (a fan with a very narrow (about 2" high by 24" wide) and shoved it into the mouth of the car (shooting right into the intercooler.)

I wanted to know if the cooling plate works, since my filter is right by the AUT opening, and guess what? It was BLASTING air into my filter. This effect would be 10 times as powerful at highway speeds.

I then blocked the AUT opening with my hand, and the intake temps began to rise (the sensor was placed directly on my K&N filter).

Even my tuner was surprised!

The "CAI like" feature of better designed cooling plates make the most sense given my experience with cooling mods.
