Default Comptech Intake without the Box

Hello,

I just found out my classmate had an S2000 and since he no longer has it, he is selling his parts. Not that many modifications, only intake and exhaust. I have an Invidia Q300 already so I am looking to buy his intake.

He has a Comptech Icebox Intake for sale for $150 but he said $120 would do if it is going to me. But the only problem is the intake is missing the carbon fiber box. Chances are I think he might have damaged the box while uninstalling it.

To be honest, I like the looks of the carbon fiber box (isn't this the whole point of it?!) but does it actually affect the performance of the intake? Without the box it is pretty much an K&N and I think it would come with the heat soak problem...

If so, where can I get the cover for the intake without buying the whole thing which is a good $360?

What it would look like without the box:

bigizsosexy from Honda-Tech

Thanks,
Kevin

Think you should be able to get just the box from CT, try contacting them first before you buy http://www.ct-engineering.com/Contac...9/Default.aspx
Btw it's just the lid that is carbon fiber, rest of the box is plain plastic.

The idea of the box is to prevent the filter from being soaked with hot air from the engine. The best part of the intake is the carbon lid and box. By the time you purchase the lid and box from ct engineering, it may be nearly as expensive as a brand new one

Call CT engineering they are good guys. I wouldn't be surprised if the box is close to the price of the intake when new though.

So in conclusion, I have to have the box to make it an effective aftermarket intake...I guess I will pass.

Thanks everyone!

Just an FYI, the filter lid (the carbon fiber part) is $99 from CT Engineering (formerly Comptech) and it usually takes 2+ weeks to arrive (they are individually hand made). I just had to order one for my supercharger build.
