I completely removed my rag top when I installed my oem hard top more than six months ago and heres what I've found...oem hardtop weight at least 45lbs, and the convertable with motor approximately 65-70 lbs.
Sweet! savings 20 pounds, cost? a fortune! Plus I no longer get the option once I leave the house, sign me up

How much of that are the motors? I'm considering just taking those out because once the top is off, putting it back in is rocket science.

That's my reasoning too. You can't go top down whenever/wherever. But Mugen hardtop is

I agree if I were to do a hard top the Mugen is the best looking. But it makes no sense to me in seattle where it can be raining and sunny all day at the same time withen 20miles apart. I am a top down guy 365, so to not have an option once I leave the house would be a bad idea. Yet there are plenty of people in Seattle area that have hard tops, geuss they didn't by the car for the convertable feature

Another reason to get a hardtop would be for the people who drive their s2k's during the winter months.

I have a hard top.

It goes on for track days in conjunction with the wing. During the winter I too use the jacket (We all know more gas = less wet...turns out more gas also = less snow )

i will 2nd that the soft top with all motors and brackets and everything comes in to ~75 lbs. but once you add the hardtop you gain 45 of that back. so in essence yes you do only lose 30 lbs. but if you think of how it was before ( soft top + hardtop together) then in reality it is quite significant, especially if you dont like convertibles like myself.

I'd never do this because I bought my S2000 as a convertible, and that's it's bread and butter for me. I want the top down as much as possible when driving it. Top down, when I choose, and back up wherever I go.

I can really only understand doing this if you don't want the S2000 as
convertible, and would rarely, if ever use it as a convertible, or perhaps where you live the weather is consistent, and a rain shower isn't unpredictable. Where I live it can start pouring at any given moment without warning, so I couldn't do this even if I wanted to.

For those who wish the S2000 was a coupe, and the car is all about racing, I guess a hard top purchase with soft top removal is understandable, as you can turn it into a coupe, and save weight. I still can't imagine possibly doing this though, not to mention you'd deter potential buyers, and hurt the resale value if you ever decided to or needed to sell the car for any reason.
