I'd never do this because I bought my S2000 as a convertible, and that's it's bread and butter for me. I want the top down as much as possible when driving it. Top down, when I choose, and back up wherever I go.

I can really only understand doing this if you don't want the S2000 as
convertible, and would rarely, if ever use it as a convertible, or perhaps where you live the weather is consistent, and a rain shower isn't unpredictable. Where I live it can start pouring at any given moment without warning, so I couldn't do this even if I wanted to.

For those who wish the S2000 was a coupe, and the car is all about racing, I guess a hard top purchase with soft top removal is understandable, as you can turn it into a coupe, and save weight. I still can't imagine possibly doing this though, not to mention you'd deter potential buyers, and hurt the resale value if you ever decided to or needed to sell the car for any reason.
The racing benefit is the reason why i'll be removing the ST. My Mugen HT looks great on the car and could be removed on nice days... and if i want to re-install someday I always have that option. But more then likely it will move more and more to being a dedicated track car. At that point i'll buy a new one and keep it stock and keep the race car for the track.

yeah this is the same question i`d like to know.

is hardtop with removed softtop lighter than just softtop ???
I recently removed my softop, frame, motors & all the rear plastic & trunk carpet and replaced the stock dual exhaust and cat with a 70mm Invidia single exhaust and a 70mm Invidia test pipe;w/out my hardtop or my spare, jack, lugwrench, etc.,the car weighs 2640 lbs. So add about 45lbs. back on for the OEM hardtop-2685lbs! And after Dustin buys my OEH hardtop,i am getting the Mooncraft/Spoon/Shine Auto/Bulletproof Automotive Remix hardtop that weighs 14lbs.I also replaced the stock intake system w/the K&N FIPK,but haven't weighed it like that-i may get to this afternoon!

Someone actually weighed the soft top out and said it was around 100lbs.

my mugen hard Top just arrived today and is gonna be off to be painted so i'm pretty stoked. But the mugen weighs even less than the oem. specially if you get the plexiglass window. 50/60 pounds is a good amount to be saved.
