Differences between Mugen Wing and Seibon MG? (Quality/Price)
So I'm aware that the risers are made of different material and that the Seibon replica is full carbon and is therefore lighter in weight.
My actual question is, if that's the case, why is the Mugen wing over 2x the price??
It sounds like the Seibon piece straight up out performs the Mugen one and at a much better price point (albeit I assume the Mugen piece is better crafted). I plan on getting one for my S2000, and for background, it's a daily car that I also track/autox occasionally, so Im not looking for big Voltex GT wings, just something that'll help keep the car a little more planted, I also plan on cutting up the rear bumper for less parachuting effect.

There are costs associated with R&D. Mugen developed/designed the wing. Seibon copied it.
There are costs with OEM fit and finish as well. Mugen is, for all intents and purposes, OEM.

^What he said. Much easier to make a copy of something that design it from scratch. Also quality control. You can ask the same thing as to why their hardtop costs 2x or more than a rep but the fit, finish and included hardware is superior.

What they said. Also, I wouldn't bet on the Seibon version being 100% carbon. Just about every "CF" part made by rep companies is 99% Fiberglass with 1 or 2 layers of CF laid on top for the look. The Seibon version could very well be heavier.

a lot of replica items are lighter than the original because they're not as structurally strong -- for example authentic mugen hardtops are much heavier than the replicas, in fact some of the cheap replicas are so thin you can see light through the material

Thanks guys, yeah I figured. Thanks for the heads up about the replica being mostly fiberglass with more or less a carbon wrap.
I figured theres absolutely no way a piece of solid carbon fiber that big could be under 1k.
Ill just buy and stick with the OEM wing til I have the money for an authentic wing.
