Default Final gear

Hi,

I am currently watching to order a final gear but I still hesitate between 4.44, 4.56 or 4.77.

I use my S2000 as a daily drive and also on track so I wanted to know what you advise me to take.

Thanks in advance for your answer and sorry for my bad english

If you track and daily drive your car either the 4.44's or the 4.56's would be better for you.

I have 4.77's and I do daily drive it and take it to the track and I have no issues with shifting too much. Other's on here will tell you otherwise. Since you have an AP1 you would enjoy the 4.77's for daily driving and scooting around town but *might* not like them on the track. Cruising on the freeway in 6th around 80MPH you're around 5200RPM.

In the end...I love my 4.77's. quicker off the line and passing is effortless on the freeway. Gas mileage I get about 250-260 miles per tank. I think that's not bad considering the higher RPM's I'm driving at.

How much miles do you lose with the 4.77's compare to the stock.

I have also read that 4.56 gears whine and 4.44 is almost quiet and for some reason 4.77 is almost as quiet as oem can anyone confirm this? And also what are the other recomended parts to purchase for a reliable geared rear end?

And I have also read that ap1 and ap2 have the same final drive rear end but ap2 transmission itself have shorter gears? They said something about putting an ap2 transmission in an ap1 on stock final drive and will still get ratios equivalent to 4.3x with a low rpm cruise on 6th gear? Can any one confirm this one also?

that is true.

your choices anymore for a fd are 4.44 or 4.77. they no longer make the 4.56 or 4.57 which is stupid imo.

if you are ap1 i would say 4.77. I have an ap2 and it seems 4.77 is too aggressive but I dont think 4.44 is enough sooooo sad...

I have to disagree with ^^^. After watching a few videos of J's Racing S2000 with 4.44 gears, I think they are sufficient enough.

The only reason a diff is going to whine is because the ring and pinon wasnt installed properly. The ratio of teeth from ring to pinion has no bearing on if the gear will whine. Ive installed atleast a dozen sets.
