Thought this might be a good topic for those who want to appease that mod bug when cash is tight. This may even be sticky-worthy if we can get this filled with quality low cost mods. I'll start with one I did today that only took about a half hour and came out pretty nicely.

I polished up my shift knob with a cheap bench grinder converted to buffer and experimented with some touch up paint.

I used some Duplicolor touch up paint that can be found at any automotive store. Apply it generously and allow to dry. A good way of telling when it is cured is by the smell. When you can just barely smell the paint fumes you are good to go. I used 1500 wet/dry sand paper to lighty scrub away the extra paint on the high spots. I followed up with the buffing wheel but if you are after the brushed look you can stop there.

Another one would be grounding your softop wire so you can put the top down without your ebrake up or stopped.

Can't forget the ever popular OEM Airbox gutting. Remove the baffle and use some excess plastic from it to seal off the resonator hole. That and you can either choose to take off the L tube or not.

Yeah and the ball bearing coolent block off to intake. Helps keep your temps lower, less heat bog and much colder intake manifold for more power. Not proven but I bet you gain a few in timing advancement from the IAT sensor thinking the car is still cold from no hot water running through it. Many pluses in my book and cost all of about $1 for two ball bearings if that. Look for old pics and DYI's. I don't have any.

Running a $25 ebay catch can and also venting the front breather. This removes heat and oil contaminents from intering your intake manifold causing poor performance. Also removes hot engine heat from your intake manifold on both ends as well. I think Ap1 owners will find this even more benificial.

Gut intake w/KN. Remove area below intake on plastic radiator plate, take $2 plastic bread cutting board and cut out a flat snorkel pathway from your grill to your intake for a true cold air forced intake. Works better then a enclosed snorkel INMO do to more air serface area being forced in. Sorry no pics.

Been running these mods for years with noticeable improvement in engine response and over all power.

Try running smaller diamiter tires for an increase in Gear ratio. For example with Ap1 try running a

225/45/16 = 4.26

215/45/16 = 4.33

245/35/16 = 4.48

Ap2 - 245/35/17 = 4.30

Disclaimer some of these choices will reduce some tire width so not recomended unless you have Coilover suspension to make compinsating adjustments in your handling. Going with a stickier tire compound is recomended as well.

Seeing as this is the area of the forum for low-cost quality changes, could we make this a sticky?

Things like fitting perspex in the centre of the roll hoops to reduce the quantity of buffeting you get whilst driving.. that type of thing.

And catch cans/krank vents, the smaller, simple things. I know catch cans can be made expensive, but they can be cheap too.
