Default going with itb's

Well, i'll begin with introducing myself...my names tim and i'm a total newb to s2k's. i've been a nissan (sr) guru for about 5 years now. i've gotten out of drifting and have been offered a pretty decent trade for my current track car(go figure an s2k). i've decided to give up on drifting for the time being, my pride and wallet are hurting from countless parts/maintence/repairs/etc. (finally i'll get to my point) i've decided i want just a fun "weekend" car that i can hit up a couple autocross events every now and then with. after a bunch of research i've decided to go N/A and with that itb's. i've done my fair share of research on the subject and come to the conclusion of going with hayward 50mm itb's, 440cc injectors, aem ems,stg 3 clutch, 70mm single exhaust, and headers (the car being offered in the trade has the last three already). my question is, when going with itb's is their any other areas i should upgrade, are their any weak spots in the s2k that i should focus my attention on now rather then later? will the stock cooling system be able to handle the formentioned setup? i know i'll need new temp gauge when going with the aem unit, but any other things like that? i've also learned to my surprise that port/polish/cams are somewhat useless on the f20c (how true is this?). i plan on doing a FULL tune up and fluid flush before i begin, and if it helps the s2k being offered is 2000 with about 100k on the chassis and almost 50 on the engine/trans(im assuming he swapped trannies as well) well thanks for putting up with the long read, and thanks in advance for any input/2 cents. -tim

You are hurting your wallet by drifting and now you want to get a set of ITBs and all the neccesary parts? And as your first mods to your S? That is a lot of money. I hope you have a good tuner.

Anyway, I can't help you with your actualy ITB setup questions, but I will say that I have heard multiple times that porting and polishing is not a good idea. Same goes for getting a new set of cams. I'm sure more experienced people will chime in but I personaly would not mess with porting, polishing, and especially cams.

And welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't go with a port and polish, and as far as the cams are concerned, you may get hp gains in one area but lose more than that gain in another. One thing I've heard of for the top end is to change out the valve springs, not sure really, just something I've heard. Since you're staying N/A I would go with a 60mm, but then again it won't be much of a difference. Hope this helps and good luck!

P.S. Post some pics of the install of the ITB's, I'm thinking about some as well.

I thought I read in a post somewhere that ITB's should only be installed if its a track car?? Is this correct? Would ITB's be beneficial if I drive my car for street use on weekends and a few evenings out of the week?

well i want a more reliable car then my full blown/caged widebody 240. s2k's are more "comfortable" and the simplicity of a standalone/itb's/exhaust/headers as far as mod's go are quite appealing lol. and as far as wallets go, it's a lot cheaper to semi build a fun weekend car then it is to compete/drift an entire season fixing and making repairs after every event/tires/gas $$ to and from events/and i could go on but hey, thanks for the advice and i'll be sure to keep everyone posted!!!

No, ITBs are a blast in a daily driver. Just make sure they're tuned right, and that they're perfectly in sync.

The "track only" thing most likely refers to the danger of inhaling "stuff". In that case, just get a set of filters and be done with it, the few HP difference isn't worth the risk.

Welcome Tim, and congrats for entering the brave world of ITBs. Anyone who tells you it's not worth the difference in "peak HP" doesn't get the appeal, and has likely never felt an S2000 with ITBs.

What length horns will you be using?

Port/polish is indeed fairly unnecessary, and would DEFINITELY need to be done by a skilled shop. The F20 head is one of the best-breathing heads out there, and it's much easier to #### it up than to improve on it. Cams are also tricky. I wouldn't bother with either for now. Reconsider when there's simply nothing left to do. Stock cooling system should be fine.

I'd also recommend filters (unless it's track-only). Oh, and earplugs.

I can recommend Pipercross filters. There are other options, none that I've tried though.

lol thanks, i'm hella excited to start this project. to be honest the biggest thing i'm looking forward to is AIR CONDITIONING lol. yeah, i'm def going to be looking for some filters as well. also, i've been trying to find the "super flush" wheels sizes for an s2k, i've come up with a 17x8/17x9 +45 is this correct or too agressive. Alot of wheel choices i've come across are only availible in 1/2 sizes (i.e. 17x7.5 up front and 17.8.5 in the rear) what would be the ideal offsets in those types of sizes?

ps
thanks everyone for the input!!!!
