going with itb's

Well, i'll begin with introducing myself...my names tim and i'm a total newb to s2k's. i've been a nissan (sr) guru for about 5 years now. i've gotten out of drifting and have been offered a pretty decent trade for my current track car(go figure an s2k). i've decided to give up on drifting for the time being, my pride and wallet are hurting from countless parts/maintence/repairs/etc. (finally i'll get to my point) i've decided i want just a fun "weekend" car that i can hit up a couple autocross events every now and then with. after a bunch of research i've decided to go N/A and with that itb's. i've done my fair share of research on the subject and come to the conclusion of going with hayward 50mm itb's, 440cc injectors, aem ems,stg 3 clutch, 70mm single exhaust, and headers (the car being offered in the trade has the last three already). my question is, when going with itb's is their any other areas i should upgrade, are their any weak spots in the s2k that i should focus my attention on now rather then later? will the stock cooling system be able to handle the formentioned setup? i know i'll need new temp gauge when going with the aem unit, but any other things like that? i've also learned to my surprise that port/polish/cams are somewhat useless on the f20c (how true is this?). i plan on doing a FULL tune up and fluid flush before i begin, and if it helps the s2k being offered is 2000 with about 100k on the chassis and almost 50 on the engine/trans(im assuming he swapped trannies as well) well thanks for putting up with the long read, and thanks in advance for any input/2 cents. -tim
If you haven't seen it yet, there is a lot off good information scattered here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...ic=478696&st=0

Also, I dont know how true it is since I don't have first hand experience with ITBs, but foam filters will almost negate any gains found with ITBs. If you look up a user "alejo" he had a cool idea of using strainers that he found in an Asian market.
However, it's important to point out - the big thing ITBs do is change the PERSONALITY of the engine, not simply add more maximum power (though they do tend to add a boatload of midrange). Even if it ITBs netted me zero extra HP, I'd still be thrilled with them, the throttle response is un-f'in-believable, and the car feels 10 times livelier and raw.
t's not always about max HP gains for some of us.
I think I have seen little stainless steel cone-shaped nets around the horns of ITBs. They looked like it was just to keep out bigger things out like bugs, looking at the design, it doesn't look like it would lose hp.

...and the simplicity of a standalone/itb's/exhaust/headers as far as mod's go are quite appealing lol...
I'm not advising against it, of course, just warning you to approach it smartly and with respect.
Nate (wildcardtrd) tried several different filter types and all lost power...to the point it negated the gains of the ITBs.
Nate's car with ITBs + EMS but otherwise stock put down the same numbers as my car does with intake, header, tp, exhaust, and EMS. But his powerband was much thicker up until about 7k rpm. Dyno pulls were on the same dyno with the same tuner...different days but similar weather conditions.
And I have seen a port & polish by a "normal" shop cost hp. The f20/22 head appears to depend a good deal on swirl which can be ruined by port & polish jobs. Only a couple of shops have been shown to know enough about what to change in the head to make a difference...and both have waiting lists that go out a year.
ITBs are not simple on this car. You would have a much simpler time with FI, especially SC (a Kraftwerks you-tune kit would be good). If you want a beefier mid-range, a stroker motor from InlinePro would be a good choice.
And there is not really anything in the drive train you need to upgrade to handle the extra power of the ITBs...the peak add is not that great.
