So the plastic piece on the backside of the headrest -- has anyone ever painted that like a matte black? It's that icky champagne-like color from the factory. I think black might look more stealthy and blend into the seat better.

Anyone?

I have. The only drawback is when the seat is fully reclined, it wants to scuff when it rubs against the roll hoops. Minor inconvenience.

Yeah, I actually ordered two replacement plastic pieces because the previous owner scuffed mine up badly. I figured I'd try painting the old ones for grins.

Probably would look much better than stock if they were painted flat black.

Flat black might be weird. I may try satin/semi-gloss, as that would match the rest of the plastics.

i switched my seat skins from red to black, and when I did I painted/died them. I spoke with upholsterer who did the swap for me, and he suggested vinyl die (that you can buy at the parts store)...it took about 3 coats to get it perfect...just be patient. you can still put armor-all to shine it if you want (it ends up being a satin finish, but looks great with protectant)

Just make sure you put on lacquer thinner (this cleans off all grease and what not, making it a paintable surface...otherwise it would just bubble)

This sounds like something fun to do. Now I just gotta think of a color....
