Default Heat Shields

So my questions is do heat shields really work?
It looks like its designed to block heat from the header to the intake box etc.
but
whats it made out of? If its metal...wont it just be storing up that heat?
I see modication makes one, anyone have one?
Looks like modication will be making a CF heatshield...wouldnt it warp being that close to the header?

Who has one and did you notice anything?

Its Moddiction first of all.

I had a ztec shield first, then the moddiction one with carbon fiber overlaid on it. PWJDM also makes a full carbon version. The short answer is yes, they do work. The ztec shield (now discontinued) was tested and actually lowered intake temps by almost 70 degrees. That is a fair amount of heat that is being pushed back by the shield. They will not warp, it does not get hot enough in that area to do so since the aluminum is very thick. It is very possible carbon fiber ones could get bubbles in the epoxy from the heat, but they make high heat epoxy which is used on all carbon peices in the engine bay, so you shouldnt have any problems with that either.

If it works as well as the one behind my wood stove then it'll work very well.

Behind my stove I have a piece of metal between the stove and the wall. I have a 4" gap between the wall and this shield. With no shield the sheetrock is hot to the touch, with the shield in place the wall is cold to the touch, as is the shield. The air and circulation all around the shield keeps it cool, despite the scorching stove less than 12" away.

The heat does not work its way up and around the shield, nor does it make the shield hot. From an engineering perspective, it will work VERY well.

honda put a heat shield on the stock header and yet another one that covers the battery/fuse box on the passenger side. they obviously thought there was a need for it so yes, they do work when done properly.

If anyone is interested in selling me one, PM me. I'm stupid for selling my carbon moddiction one.

Here was my carbon overlaid one from Moddiction. (I got the only one he made since he decided to make full carbon versions, not aluminum overlaid. So mine is the only one like it, but this is how the the Ztec shields are also). I can get you some pics of how it looked before I installed the intake if you want, but I will have to wait until i'm off work.

Also yes, that test was on here. I know I was looking up the Ztec shields, so if you do a little searching through there maybe you can find it.

more pics would be cool. any idea on the thickness of the plate?
1/8"?
1/4"?
Another question that comes to mind is why wouldnt the heat shield go all the way over to the left (almost touching the passenger side shock area)
I look at that and to me it seems like it goes half way...

btw your engine bay looks very nice!
