like 1/8" or thinner?
The Password JDM one is very thin since it's true Carbon fiber (not an overlay). Here is a pic of my Password heat shield in Kevlar

I've been thinking about picking up the password jdm one but am wondering if it will make any different if I coat the back with a thermal barrier. I have a sheet of the high temp aluminum stuff. Anyone know or would this deflect more heat back to the engine block causing issues?

Yes if you put a thermal backing on the back of the PWJDM shield, it would help a lot. It will heat the carbon less, and it will be less prone to getting bubbles in the epoxy, and or bending it from the heat. Then of course it will probably help push the heat back a little better. Putting that on the heatshield will not cause problems, or overheating issues. There are huge open spaces between the engine, and air can easily escape under the car.

Hell people buy upper strut bars for a lot more than $100 and they don't do anything! This can at least lower your intake temps a little bit and they look cool.

^^ True. But they should cost less

Looks like it is pretty easy to make one too.
