Default HKS HiPower + Test Pipe

Currently I have an HKS HiPower exhaust on my car and I've been thinking about getting a test pipe.

What are the pros and cons to a test pipe? What sort of gains can I expect over having just the exhaust? Does a test pipe technically make the car not street legal? What legal implications are involved? Also, everyone says that a test pipe makes the car sound even better - how so?

Thanks all!

i think a test pipe will most likely get rid of any drone. i have heard an ap2 w/hks and testpipe. i wasnt right next to it...he was probably a few blocks away, but oh my god, did it sound amazing.

Thanks. So no drone? Does it make the exhaust note louder, more exotic?

So will the car pass a smog check with the test pipe on?

How bad is the smell w/ the TP?
Is it like the rotten egg smell you get w/ a bad CAT?
cuz I've ran thru a puddle of water with my old RSX-S, the water messed up the catalytic converter and I couldn't bear that nasty smell.
