Default Illegal exhaust?

So I just got a repair order for my aftermarket exhaust, he said its illegal in Maryland. But I bought the car from CarMax, in MD, with this exhaust on the car...
I never had a stock exhaust to begin with, or I'd just switch it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do now? I don't really want to buy a stock exhaust just to get a signature..
Thanks

It would be the easiest thing to do. Id start scoping out all the FS threads for a used OEM exhaust, they generally are let go for about $100 if you can find one local. Shipping one will be a bit more.

Probably get a better answer if you post in the local subforum for Maryland. Did they clarify what makes the exhaust illegal?

If you're running an AP2, I have my old stock exhaust sitting in my garage. Only issue is that it doesn't come with the exhaust tips. But if you're interested shoot me a PM and I can drive it up to you since I'm located in Northern Virginia.

It's illegal because Maryland is competing for the title of most car-unfriendly state. I've seen stories with people getting tickets for completely stock cars. There's no standards for enforcement of their vaguely worded laws and the cops are allowed to get away with pretty arbitrary enforcement.

Check Craigslist too, you're almost guaranteed to find an OEM exhaust there.

Who's "he" in "he said?" What's "illegal" about it?

Is there some sort of inspection the car is failing? Emissions? Visual? Noise? Is there a catalytic converter on the car?

If it's noise I've no clue how or what the "noise emitted" is or was on a Honda S2000.

Md. TRANSPORTATION Code Ann. § 22-609 (2013)

§ 22-609. Modification of exhaust system

(a) Modification that increases sound prohibited. -- A person may not modify the exhaust system or any other noise abatement device of a motor vehicle driven or to be driven on any highway in this State in such a way that the noise emitted by the vehicle exceeds that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

(b) Operation of improperly modified vehicle prohibited. -- A person may not drive on any highway in this State a motor vehicle with an exhaust system or noise abatement device modified in a way prohibited by subsection (a) of this section.

Cop just said any aftermarket exhaust is illegal in MD. I just don't understand how that can be true if I bought the car from a dealer with an aftermarket exhaust.

Thank you for the code. "He" was the cop, said that any aftermarket exhaust is illegal in MD. There is a cat, I just passed emissions last month, and like I said I bought the car with this exhaust from a dealer. It's just crap because clearly it passed inspection before it was sold to me, and then I get a repair order for it..
