Cool, I might hit you up on that. Thanks!

Who's "he" in "he said?" What's "illegal" about it?

Is there some sort of inspection the car is failing? Emissions? Visual? Noise? Is there a catalytic converter on the car?

If it's noise I've no clue how or what the "noise emitted" is or was on a Honda S2000.

Md. TRANSPORTATION Code Ann. § 22-609 (2013)

§ 22-609. Modification of exhaust system

(a) Modification that increases sound prohibited. -- A person may not modify the exhaust system or any other noise abatement device of a motor vehicle driven or to be driven on any highway in this State in such a way that the noise emitted by the vehicle exceeds that emitted by the vehicle as originally manufactured.

(b) Operation of improperly modified vehicle prohibited. -- A person may not drive on any highway in this State a motor vehicle with an exhaust system or noise abatement device modified in a way prohibited by subsection (a) of this section.

Thank you for the code. "He" was the cop, said that any aftermarket exhaust is illegal in MD. There is a cat, I just passed emissions last month, and like I said I bought the car with this exhaust from a dealer. It's just crap because clearly it passed inspection before it was sold to me, and then I get a repair order for it..
You can always take it up with the judge, but many of the stories I've read end with the judge siding with the cops even though the cop had no case really.

Good enough for DOT, but not a Maryland judge: http://jalopnik.com/5589270/maryland...lights-illegal

Something brought This on other than just driving innocently. I'm sure you weren't driving like an Alpha Hotel, right? Lots of run-ins with the same cop?

Just what exhaust is on the car and how loud is it? Ricer car or otherwise stock?

It was at our beach during hot rod weekend and the cops are just there to pull everyone over for anything and everything. I was going below the speed limit, it was 100% for the smoked tail lights and they just tack on everything else they can find. You really can't even hear the exhaust over all the muscle cars there. It's a Tanabe grand touring exhaust that isn't supposed to hit over 90dB

Is it a Concept G or Medalion Touring? The Medalion Touring is 93 dB, the Concept G is louder than that.

Almost every single car I've owned in recent history has had an aftermarket exhaust on it going back 20 years (all here in MD). Not ONCE have I ever received a ticket for it. Hell, a few cars ago I had an '06 Si with a Skunk 2 cat-delete header and 3" full race exhaust. Loud as f-ck (and oh so beautiful to hear).

There are SO many cars around here that are obviously way louder than stock that cops don't even blink their eye at on the road.

Then again, I don't drive like an asshat and draw attention to myself.

Yeah, fight it. If you passed inspection that exhaust should be road legal.

A general statement of "aftermarket exhausts are all illegal" is complete bullshit. Sounds like this cop just has a stick up his ass.

From my reading of that MD statute, its illegal to pass thru MD with modified exhaust, or even intake, even if you're from another state and your car is legal in your state. Even something like the UK mod or removing your airbox cover would be illegal in MD, even if just passing thru.

Probably get a better answer if you post in the local subforum for Maryland. Did they clarify what makes the exhaust illegal?
Cop just said any aftermarket exhaust is illegal in MD. I just don't understand how that can be true if I bought the car from a dealer with an aftermarket exhaust.
This was a common misconception that CA cops also had up until about 10 yrs ago. Now they realize that the law applies to sound above a certain level. What the exhaust is doesn't make any difference. Everything is legal as long as it doesn't exceed the threshold.
