Because the filter doesn't sit under the hood. It sits behind the passenger headlight, inside the fender liner, where it is away from hot air.
I'd have to see a picture. The metal heat cunducting intake tube still runs under the hood. And how much crap and water from the street does it suck up? Do you feel like this is the best location/alternative over modified stock for performace - why?

Yes, the metal tube still sits under the hood. Guess what retains heat more, metal or plastic. Guess what gets hotter, a big arse plastic box sandwiched between a hot radiator and an even hotter engine or a small metal tube.

I do, hence why I use one. Proven hp gains. Luckily they put a filter at the end of the tube to "filter" out crap.

Since you haven't even seen an AEM style 2 piece intake before, you really shouldn't be talking about how "bad" it is.

What retains heat more, Metal of course, thats a no brainer. The stock intake is more isolated from heat inclosed in the pastic box and rubber hose, and the opening is in the best possible location once you open up the radiator plate. fresh ram air from the grill. Whats better then this?

Common sense and butt proven and endorsed by many experienced owners.

I'm sure your Injen is one of the better CAI's compared to most, so with that don't discount my points on my approach.

The air is travel down the metal tube so quick, that by the time it reaches the intake manifold, I don't think it has changed too much in temperature.

As oppose to OEM where the air it digest is warm to begin with.

Air is a poor conductor, infact it's more like an insulator.

At full throttle it will suck 6ft of air per second

In OEM it is iportant to either buy a radiator plate with the intake opening or cut out the OEM. Then the air is truly cold coming from outside. Remember this isn't a debate over stock OEM vs a CAI, its modified OEM vs CAI. In my experience the stock intake is the best basis to work from if you want max power from N/A application.

^^ That was my first thought but I thought CAI generally smoothed out the vtec transition?
not at all, it will be more pronounced. you running stock exhuast? a free flowing exhuast will smooth it out a little.
