I am getting some J's rear over fenders soon and was wondering if there are any write ups on installing them. I mainly want to know how much of the fender needs to be cut and what else needs to be done in order to keep the strength in the rear.

You're not cutting anything "integral" away, so you don't need to reinforce anything after cutting.

How much of the fender you cut off is entirely up to you. Just test fit the fender with painter's tape, and measure the distance from the fender lip to about 1" away from where you're going to rivet. Don't forget to clean up (sand or roll) that edge after cutting.

Also, definitely do a search. I remember a member posted pictures of the cut he made without the fender installed, so you can get an idea of what it's going to look like.

 

not true. ur cutting into the quarter panel, which is integral to the rigidity of the chassis since its welded on. make sure you have the shop weld it back together after you cut it.
