Default Intake idea

I've thought about making a custom intake to replace my FIPK; this has come to mind, a twin filter setup (I'm also making covers for the engine bay to clean it up). There would be a heat shield all the way from between the radiator stays, down and back up to the strut bar. Would a pipe design like this hurt performance in any way? (looking for info from people who have tried multiple intakes/know the best configuration for the F engine). Thx...

MS Paint mockup (not my car in the modded pic, copied from google images)

Having two intake filters is pretty pointless with only 1 throttle body..

I am agreeing with JDMpearlwhyteZ on this, I think give it a go, but I would say get it dyno tested before and after so you can see any gain or loss you make.

But with only 1 throttle body you can only suck so much air in to the engine so an extra filter will not make too much of a difference, and im sure this is one of the things that Honda spent a lot of time researching when designing the S.

MMMM hot air. Get an AEM cold air or similar. or gut the oem box and put a K&N inside.

The Y pipe would effectively shorten the intake length, which would change the torque curve. On the S2000, intake tube length has a very significant impact on performance, so you would need to do quite a bit of testing to figure out the right layout.

This is the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I have a gen 2 FIPK now, and it sounds and runs fine with it. This mod is about cleaning up the engine bay only, not looking for a performance increase, just wanna make sure there will be no performance loss due to the Y pipe.

There will be a duct coming in from each bumper cutout, as well as completely shielding the entire area. And my hood is vented. I doubt IATs will rise much over my current FIPK; scanguage will tell...

Cosmetic; I like the look of the old SRT10 Hennessey intake, that's where I got the idea. Symmetrical/clean...

You would have to relocate the radiator resivoir tank, for enough air to flow through the hole on that side. In my opinion, two filters would probably hurt performance. Seems like it would also disrupt the airflow when joining the two pipes into one, making it much more turbulent. If two filters were beneficial, I'm sure aftermarket companies would have made at least one like that. I'd listen to Gernby, he really knows his stuff. If I were you, I'd just buy a nicer intake. Although if you really want to make a custom one, I say go for it... but I would make one with just one filter. But hey, it's your car man. Do what you want to it, you can always change it if you don't like it.

Having 2 air filters will actually help filter the charge air more effectively. You would essentially double the intake filter area by 2 thereby dropping the air velocity through each filter by 1/2. The slower the air flows through the filter the more effective it is at filtering the air. Also the pressure drop through the filter setup will be lower than having 1 filter since drag force varies with the square of air velocity which could net you small gains in hp. However the merge of the 2 tubes could possibly cancel any gain from the increased air flow.
