you will be fine,

and you dont even need a ems

you can get a open ecu tune which is just as good.
go ask tunners,

its only 400 for a full open ecu tune and another tune is 200 here in colorado
but thats the most expensive place to get tuned

other places are 200 a tune and 100 every time you add a part like headers or cams etc.

Unless some new tuning technology was released for the S2000 in the past couple months, this does not exist in any way. The only tunable ECU's for the S2000 are in the '06+ AP2's, and they require an external flash module (Hondata FlashPro, etc.).

I've been following this thread and some others looking for a concise answer (if that even exists in the this world).

Gernby, I've read your post on exhaust and you definately have put together some very good info for everyone. In that post you mentions different levels of tuning. Most of which I am slightly unfamiliar with.

I understand the 01-03's run a bit lean and thus affect the AFR when you mess with the exhaust/intake system. What I am simply wondering is (as an AP1 Owner "02") what avenue do you recomend I take for a Tune/EMS setup. I have some short and long term goals for the car. They include exhaust and intake mods.

My question is, if you adjust the vtec engagement and the AP1 is already running lean is it a good idea to purchase larger injectors?
If not, does the tune make up for the difference?

OP i have the same mods as you do except i have the comptech intake instead of K&N. a tune is not necessary but will definitely help. if you have any other future plans with the s2000, an EMS+tune will be necessary so your might as well start now.

Actually, the '00-'01 AP1 run rich from the factory, and have conservative ignition timing. The '02-'03 AP1's run a bit leaner and have more agressive timing. This reduces the gains that you can get from VAFC / NEO type piggy-backs. With basic bolt-ons, the benefit from a VAFC / NEO will be reduced, since those bolt-ons will make the car run leaner, and the VAFC can't do anything to make it run richer. You might be able to increase fuel pressure or something to improve the situation, but you can't put larger injectors in without getting a different ECU. The stock ECU will only work with the OEM injectors, since every injector has different opening / closing times, flow rates, and latency.
