Default Intakes

Hi,

I recently became very interested in purchasing and intake (for throttle response, a little power, and possibly sound) and was looking into the K and N short ram intake. At first glance it seemed perfect: cheap, great reviews, great sound, and OK gains (5hp).

However, upon more in depth research, I found several posts regarding the filter of the K and N and how it passes more contaminants than the honda OEM. I know its not 100% proven and that even if it was the amount is very little however, I am the type of person who would not be able to stand that.

So I am just wondering if there are any other intakes out there that has the same or better filtering capabilities than the oem (perhaps utilizes a bigger SA filter with same material?). I don't mind paying a bit extra (unless its ridiculous).

Thanks

Just thinking about it, if you get a higher flow air filter, more air is coming in through the filter. If more air can go through some contaminants can go through. Its nothing to worry about though, if anything gets through the filter its going to be like mircoscopic and just burn up in the engine. I would say if you cant live with something like that just keep the oem intake with an oem filter. I have a K&N drop in and love it. More sound and better throttle response. Alot of people have had the K&N FIPK intake for a long time and have had no trouble with it.

some people reported higher levels of silica with the K&N and other oiled cotton gauze filters (those who use oil analysis). an option would be to run the K&N intake with a dry synthetic type filter (AEM dryflow, aFe Pro Dry S) that will still give you great flow (just slightly less then an oiled cotton gauze filter) and better filtration rates.

i am running the dry synthetic aFe filter in the stock box.

even the stock air intake take in contaminants, engine heat will completely kill off the bacteria living in ur engine lol if you're that scared.. go try out the K&n fipk good luck.

I have the AEM cold air v2. Be careful of mounting an open filter right under the hood. Your intake will take in the wam air from the engine and defeat the purpose of the intake. This is why I would suggest a cold air or drop in filter.

yeah my first dyno run was 231, and then the heatshield got a littler warmer and put down 226 then 225whp. heat def comes into affect. i think a cold air would give me alot more consistent runs at about 230whp
