umm..clean the oem?
If you follow the directions, KN will tell you exactly how much oil to use on the filter. There is no need to let it sit overnight. And overoiling is the only way that it could gunk up a sensor.

The instructions don't' tell you how much is too much. put some wait 20 min, put some more. i found out that letting it sit overnight spreads the oil evenly without worrying about over oiling. Of course no one has to do anything I recommend. i just brought it up because someone was talking about over oiling...
I read the instructions about a week ago when i cleaned mine, all it says is, and i quote, "oil liberally" lol so.. maybe thats why people over oil it
On a side note, after cleaning it, i did notice quite a difference in acceleration, also I saw a dyno the other day with an OEM filter on the stock intake, and immediately after, he popped a K&N filter on and he gained like 8hp peak.. pretty crazy imo

Heres this guys post about the K&N drop in filter, hes making low numbers, but thats what i call dyno proof about the K&N filter as of performance over stock, he ended up making about 7hp over stock just by changing the filter
I did oil mine pretty "liberally" but I did let it sit out a good decent while, on paper towels to soak up any excess that drained to the bottom (laying on its side) it didnt look nearly as red as it did when i first got the intake when i popped it back on

there's tons of variable that factors in how to read a dyno, please don't even bother with any butt dyno, because i took a sh-t the other day and gain 200whp
I have k&N on my car too but they are only a filter and they only do so much

please do not kid yourself over this, you can get 7whp difference between runs, well within margin of error.

happy?
And yes, Im gonna have to go with that dyno is legit, being the OEM rated the same twice, and the K&N rated the same twice, back to back
everyone says power gains on a dyno are useless unless put back to back, now that this one is back to back you shit all over it too? heh
from my experience 7 hp is is out of the error margin for dyno testing. (same day, same conditions, etc)
the KN instructions tell you how far away to spray the filter and to make sure its evenly covered in red. If you follow the directions theres no worry to over oil

Every 50k, or if it looks really dirty sooner.
I put one in our TL and even my wife noticed a different at WOT. However I put it in the S and have noticed no improvement.
K&N says it doesn't void any warranty and apparently will step up to back the buyer up if there are any problems. Though I would talk to them first.
I'm a K & N fan and will use them on all cars. It's just a better product and less waste.

2/5ths of the way down the page http://www.knfilters.com/filter_facts.htm
if you are concerned with dealers denying your warranty, read up on the magnusson moss act. they have to prove your modification caused the damage.
