the one you have, is it directly under the hood? if so you have nothing to worry about unless you have a habit of driving throught lots of standing water. I have an AEM that goes down and into the front bumper and I have to watch where I drive. I am also in florida where it rains like an SOB. We had 15 inch's in 3 days

The K&N FIPK is the only intake I'd put on the S, and I don't recommend any low-pick up intakes because of the hydrolock risks..

Yeah it's down there, I also loved in FL for a few months but now I'm in MD. It sounds like I'll be fine just gonna avoid puddles and I'll install a bald milk jug over the filter as I've seen in related posts about this issue..

Whats up guys, I recently installed a k&n cold air intake in my S and I'm afraid of hydro lock. My intake sits low next to my radiator, I have a splash guard but I'm still worried about it. Any recommendations or hints?
Do not:

Drive through standing water (no matter how shallow you may think it is)

Drive though puddles if they can be avoided

Drive the car in heavy rain if you don't need to

Go wot in heavy heavy rain

Do:

Plug the drain hole under the hood on the passenger side by the headlight (drains right ontop of the filter)

Check the drain valve on the intake before starting or driving (if there is one) to make sure there's no water coming out of it after you've washed the car or let it sit in rain..
Thanks about the drain hole I didn't know about that

No problem

I don't run a splash shield for my intake and it's completely fine if the car sits in the rain or gets washed.. And as long as you didn't cut your splash guard up to bad, you shouldn't really have a problem with the tire splashing water onto the filter while driving in the rain..

I don't have to drive my car when it's raining so if it's raining before I leave the house I don't take the S.. But I have been caught coming home in some killer ass downpours and I've never even had my car so much as hiccup.. Even driving 60+ miles nonstop in downpours..

CAI's aren't that bad, if you have some kind of common sense..

i agree with the other dude. For the price you pay for the intake for the minimal gains you MIGHT recieve since you are now inducing more air into the car that it is not already programed for which in turn does nothing for you bc you didnt TUNE the car for it. To only drive it in the rain one time to buy another 3,000 upgrade bc you need a new engine bc of a puddle you decided or not decided to go through. Waste of time and money in my opinion. But again your prerogative on what you do with your car man, if you like it, ROCK IT and stand by. IF your scared dont buy and waste your time with it and in turn be scared everytime you start your car to go for a drive..

My advice is to search the forums for hydrolock. I know I have told my story many times throughout the years. The cliff-notes version goes something like this:

- Installed AEM CAI
- Car sat out front for a couple weeks when I was selling it
- Went to start it up without looking in tube
- Hydrolock
- Honda replaced motor at 32500 miles, 500 miles past my warranty (Thanks Honda!!!)
- My receipt from Honda: $12,000 in parts + labor

From now on, it's FIPK + heat shield. No way I would ever consider another CAI. Just be careful of water in tube and have fun!

That is actually helpful, Luckily I have a garage but I will always be aware of my car sitting out side.
Thanks
