Default LEAVE INTAKE BOX OPEN OR CLOSED?

So I have a dro pin knn cone filter, pretty much teh same type of cone filter but diff/ material.

I was wondering if there is better gains with the intake box opened or closed?

I've noticed that there is more intake sound when the box is open, so I'm assuming there is more restriction when it is closed.

If its better closed, I'm thinking of getting a snorkel with a cooling plate....

does anyone have any experience with this?

thanks

Keep it closed. It will suck up all hot air from the engine bay when it's open. That = bad.

Keep it closed, you lose power and gas mileage with the box open. One can see this for themselves drive around for a while, then open you hood and feel how hot the cover is!; without that cover all that heat gets sucked up into your intake.

keep it open, once your moving the temp inside the engine bay is the same as the outside temp, this test has been proven on an integra but i do not have the link

Remove the whole box and get a CAI. You will enjoy the extra power and sound. Yes, there is some power to be had from the right CAI. Not to mention all the extra room you will have. It's also nice to be able to change your oil and filter without even jacking the car up. If hydra locking is a concern for you look into a K&N FIPK or Comptech. You can usually find them here used for pretty cheap.

I doubt that a cooling plate is really good (It blocks all the air from cooling the engine). You can find some cheap ones a coastal metals.

If you leave it open it will sound good but you will have heat soak - that means if youre ever drag racing you will be slower - you will also have problems starting the car moving. Once its moving it should be almost the same performance as closed.

closed, the s2k actually has some resonance crap that supposedly creates positive pressure (small FI!?!? haha) Also the top is probably tuned to cut out the sound, which is why its so quiet with the top back on.
