"gutted" is another one of those debates and there is no cutting with snorkel unless you get one that say "modification is required" then you have to cut your hood. get the one that says "no modification required."

The cover on=less heatsoak and better airflow.

And changing the oil filter can be done no problem with the stock airbox, so dont let that be an excuse to start modding ;p
Not just the filter, the drain plug too and all without lifting the car up. Just get a low drip pan ($3 at Walmart). I'm sure you could do it with the stock air box in but it wont be as easy. And you will get some extra power with a CAI, there are dynos. A snorkle might be just as good though. I'm not gonna cut my hood though. CAI intake is easy and I kn ow it works.

The dyno isn't a normal place. I got major bog when I tried it way back when. It causes heat soak.

Have you driven the car with the airbox cover off yet? I notice a bog w/ the airbox cover off when first starting off, but on the highway it feels & sounds great!

That being said, fwiw, I'm going with this set-up:

ans2k mentions that he notices his bogging. Others have said they notice no bogging, either way I'm going to wrap mine up like Zeniac did here:
