Default Looking to change the gears

My friend brought up to me about changing the gears in my car. I want to know how easy is it to install and does anyone know of a good vendor to order them from. I was looking at the 4.57s i believe. I would like to know peoples opinions about doing this, is it worth it? things like that. thanks

My friend got the 4.77, he is really happy with it. As for installation I don't think it is like any of the bolt on mods for DIY. Its best if you have access to any shop hoist and other tools.

I want to help but I just don't think I can go through this discussion again...I really recommend you do a search because I know I've chimed in about 8 or 10 times on "gears" threads, and that's probably only 10% of the threads that exist on here about it.

1) Depends what you plan to do with the car (track occasionally, street, full race)

2) Are you expecting to take it to the drag strip (I won't comment on this)

3) How much highway driving do you do, and at what speed?

4) What are your expectations of gears (think you'll smoke a Z06?)

etc etc

Same deal here, MY02 with 4.77s.

For every one that agrees though, 3 will disagree for various reasons. That's why the research is so important on this potential upgrade.

So the only way to know if you like them is to try them. See if you can meet up with someone in your local thread that has the gears you want. That is what I would do. And hardtopguy.com seems like a popular choice to get gears from.

4.77's all the way. I have them. I would even go with a higher gear ratio if it was available for the same price and all.
Love them!!
Bought mine from hardtopguy.com. Were $900 plus $100 for cryo'd gears and then $55 for speedo calibrator plus shipping which was about $70.
I also had to put a $1000 core charge down which I will get back when I ship him my old one.
So So total was like $1100 shipped.
Search on this forum. There have been many many threads about them.
