Thanks for the update, and I'm glad to know that the occasional buzz was from the tip! Please let me know if that comes back, since that noise is the biggest thing holding up the group buy. The custom perforated megaphones that I ordered to eliminate all buzzy / raspy noises are going to take a month to get ...

I knew you wouldn't like the FIPK with VTEC engaging so early. It really sounds horrible. If you want me to send you a modified tune, let me know. I can raise the RPM and / or manifold pressure parameters of the VTEC window to reduce unwanted VTEC.

BTW, the mid-pipe makes such a big difference in torque, that it's really a lot of fun even with the stock intake. I actually used the stock intake instead of my PWJDM for months while developing the mid-pipe, since I wanted to make sure I didn't create a need for an aftermarket intake to achieve the gains I was looking for. That's also why the DynoJet plots I've posted were done with the OEM intake.

Great read! My hat is off to you for your time and effort. If this were legal in STR I would give it a try.

Good Luck,

Cory

How would this midpipe interact with FI setups that have close to 2x the stock exhaust mass flowing?

My mid-pipe will perform at least as well on an AP1, since it simply improves the resonance problems that exist with conventional designs. After all, the intake and exhaust of the AP1 and AP2 are virtually identical, which is why both had a 6K VTEC engagement.

I'm less sure about how the pipe will perform with FI applications. I don't thinki a turbo will benefit much from strong scavenging, but an SC might.

Testing update-Did a drive with a group of S2ks yesterday in SW FW on a bunch of twisties.
where I would normally be between 3, 4, and 5 on a bunch of these turns, I could ride them through in 5th and still have a ton of torque, enough to get me through withough dropping out of the power band.

The other nice part is that it makes the ride much nicer in general.

I did figure out, that I think the exhaust note is similar to a VQ engine. All in all another positive. Makes me think I am going to have to add this to my list of upgrades, and move it above some other items.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you had an opportunity to experience the difference in a real world scenario! The midrange gains are so high that torque to the road in higher gears approaches that of 4.77 gears. Basically, if you're in the 4K - 6K range, you have about as much "punch" in 6th as you would in 5th with a stock S2000.

What is the VQ engine?

VQ is the Nissan engine used in the Z and the G cars (350/370 and 35/37)
Very distinct note and quite pleasant

NOOOOO!!!!!!!! We need all your concentration on the S2000! No need cluttering up your mind with Nissan data.
