Greg you're probably right about both things re: drone, the short tip and comparing to stock. That's why I said it's subjective. But not really bad IMO. Would you suggest I try the bottle resonator or a shorter exhaust with a longer tip next time? I am thinking of trying either the short Magnaflow you mention a couple pages back or a Dynomax super turbo muffler.

I recommend not doing anything for a few weeks or 1K miles, since it will break in while you get used to it. After that, you may have a totally different opinion of it. If you still feel that it drones too much, I don't think a bottle resonator would help much (if at all). The bottle resonator would be to reduce rasp.

BTW, I was looking at the 14" mufflers I've tried, and can't figure out why your 15" muffler didn't fit well. Is it because he used 2.5" tubing with a large bend radius, or could it be that Canadian inches are bigger than US inches (Vibrant is Canadian)?

LOL, I'm surprised the installer didn't think of that excuse... It was 2.5" tubing, maybe that's what made it more difficult.

Update: I edited my post above. After driving some more last night, I realized that drone is pretty minimal compared to other after market exhausts. I think the reason I initially felt there was a lot of drone is because in 97% of the time for the past 3 months I've been driving a very quiet E90 328i sedan or a stock Mazda3. Since I hadn't driven the S for over a week prior to install, I think the contrast in sound to these other cars and to the stock set up is what made me believe there was a lot of drone.

After driving it again last night I really liked the sound of this exhaust set up. Not too loud, but loud enough to know it's not stock and make it a lot of fun to drive. Maybe it's broken in a little more and sound is a little more abated, not sure, but it sounds really good.

Ahh perspective. My stock S was too loud for me after my very quiet Evo X. Took about a week to get over that...

Thanks for the update, Vitt!

Have you spent much time with the top down, and have you noticed any rasp?

Greg, no top down yet. It's been very cold and rainy here in California. And I don't use top down that much anyway, but will try it soon as I have a chance. But I don't notice that much rasp at all, but again, that's subjective I guess.

Hopefully I'll meet jh4db536 after tuning so we can compare notes and sounds. But I think he's quite a ways south of where I live. Are you in OC? Maybe I'll go to one of the meets. Do you go to the WLA meet sometimes?

I work in WLA but live east of downtown. I've been to the sfv gripworks meet once, wla meet a couple times and topdown last year. Lately I've been putting in a lot of hours at the office, so I have been mia.

I know how that is. I was just curious what yours sounded like. I forgot what you wrote in earlier posts but you have a dual, correct?
