So what sort of costs are we looking at to take the stock S2000 up to around 400HP? Just a ball park would be great!
Thanks for the responses too.
To get an s2000 in the 400hp range, and have a nice reliable set-up will most likely run you $7k+ in the long run, thats with supporting mods such as a built diff, clutch, exhaust, ect..

so 7k on top of the original price of the car. And how bout tuning? are they a nightmare? I know the Sti's are a piece of cake in comparison to most cars.. how does the S2000 stack up?

Well for that you would of course have an EMS, and most people get the AEM units. I would defiently find someone that has experience in tuning engines with Vtec, that way they can tune everything right. Tuning isn't that bad if you can find someone with experience.

For 400whp just pick up an sos or vortech sc kit. Can find a vortech used for 2500-3000
Need aem ems-used 850
ID 1000cc injectors-$490 new with plug and play clips
Clutch figure like 600 +450 install if not doing it yourself.
Wideband gauge-175
Serial gauge-175
Tune-500-600
12 psi pulley -$100
3-4 bar map sensor-$100

If paying for labor that will run you between 6-7 grand about. Doing work yourself figure 5500 or so it can be done.

Buying everything new figure about 10 grand.
