Default Mods that require RETUNING

Fellas, I'm fairly new to this scene, so bear with me.

I was wondering what kinds of modifications that require your car to be re-tuned?
Initially I'm looking on doing stuff that doesn't require me to have my car tuned. So I guess things like intake, headers, exhaust, etc. If you guys could list things that NEED re-tuning, I'd appreciate it. That way I'd know what to stay away from, at least for the time being.

If you want you could list things thats don't need tuning too, so I'd know what to go with.

Thanks a lot!

Bolt ons do not require a tune, but you will not make optimum power unless you retune. You really need to be careful with what you put on the s2000 though. You would think that something advertised as a performance part would make power, although that is not always true, some people have reported an actual loss of power with some mods. Just make sure to do a little research on things before you buy. Things like turbo and supercharging are some things where a tune is needed. Take care.

this seems to be a debatable topic. Personally, I wouldn't worry if you had just an intake, or just an exhaust, but the more bolt-ons you go with, the leaner you're gonna run. While leaning out the car a bit is probably beneficial to creating power, I ended up getting tuning with only an intake header and test pipe w/stock exhaust. My AFR was at 14.1 at the tailpipe, and that concerned me a bit. Especially if down the road I plan on getting an exhaust, it's going to be that much more lean. Plus one of you first mods could be a pre-tuned greddy EMU. For $1,120 shipped, they are seeing around +15 whp and +15 wtq. no bolt on alone is going to give you that power....just some thoughts. Everyone has a different car, so some may need a good tune, and some may not. I personally put on an intake first, and then I put on the header and TP at the same time, and hit the dyno to check AFR's. ...just some thoughts

Just buy all the Bolt-ons, then tune it with a Greddy e-manage Ultimate or AEM EMS

14.1 at the tailpipe is more like 13.4ish at the header. and thats if your sporting a test pipe. cat could make it even appear more lean at the tail pipe

dont be too concerned. not too mention, 12.5 is tech the ideal na AFR at wot

i made the most power at 12.3...

tuning no matter what you add will produce results. the thing you have to ask yourself, how commited are you to teh game?

average joe, then maybe after all bolt ons get some piggyback and have someone tune it.

i drove stock for 2 years. then in the last year, standalone tune on my na s2k, then supercharger on the way.

bottomline, figure out your long term goal, if boost is in it, just pony up now and start learning how to use it. otherwise you will drop mad cash paying people to tune it oiver and over and over and over....

good luck.

Thanks guys. Also, any of you guys have a site that sells bolt-ons that you prefer? I know a few, but I'd rather order from places that people have experience with.

I would search on the for sale fourms on here. You could get awesome stuff for a good price. Or buy from the sponsers from this site.

yeah, too many great stores here. You can't go wrong with any of them...

One good mod to think about would be gears... But get use to your car first, drive it around for a bit, then get them. You will notice the difference more then.

AEM EMS is overkill just for intake and exhaust.

If you have bolt ons, a VAFC is just fine (not necessary, but optimal).

If you have a basic SC kit, no retune is needed. But again, something will help.

Turbo or SC with >7psi will need Emanage or EMS.
